In short: Burke Mansion exceeded our already high expectations; it's a surprisingly grand stately home - given that Macon isn't Charleston - with bags of original features and charm. Measured in the key categories*, it scores a very solid 4.6 average. The long story: We'd planned a road trip that incorporated Macon for 2020, but COVID got in the way, so we'd been looking forward to this visit for some time. We research extensively and therefore expected Burke Manion to be on the grand side, but not on this scale: the house is very, very impressive and is really something to be savioured. Dating from 1887, it retains many of the original fixtures and fittings - age has taken its toll on some of these, but that's also part of the charm - and the house oozes old-world charm. Our room: The T.C. Burke is large - the bed is simply huge - and all very comfortable and impressive. It faces the front of the house, and, therefore the street, so there can be some vehicular noise, but that's standard for any property in town and nothing to be bothered about. The breakfast: A very nice breakfast served in the glorious main dining room made us feel rather "under-dressed"..! Serious, it was a very pleasurable experience. The acid test (that is, would I return): yes, definitely. *Key Categories Accommodation = comfort, ambiance, sleep quality, facilities: 4.5 Breakfast/Dining = quality, choice, appropriateness: 4.6 Staff = helpfulness, efficiency, politeness: 4.5 Meeting Expectations = how close to meeting the expectations they set: 4.8 Value-for-Money = everything consideration and measuring this against the cost: 4.8
