Semarandana Bedrooms and Pool

A Balinese friend booked the accommodation for us and we weren’t sure what to expect. From the moment we arrived, we enjoyed ourselves. The staff are fantastic! The accommodation is so central! The breakfast is cooked by Oka each morning and you can choose from about 8 items on the menu. We stayed for 2 months and have already booked for next year. It’s a great place and fantastic value!

Having read all the reviews I was looking forward to staying here although not expecting the ritz. My first impressions was a rundown unclean establishment. The rex Caption area was ditched and fingerprints all.over the bottle fridges I could tell it was going to be bad. The swimming pool was dirty. My room was awful it smelt of urine coming up the stairs and unclean. The bed sheets were grey not white with stains all over them.The toilet had a brown ring around it. This place is awful I do not recommend anyone staying here.

Stayed 5 nights at the Semerandana. Was an amazing find and absolute value for money. Is centrally located, with great restaurants within easy walking distance and the beach only 3 minutes away. Had the Studio with kitchenette and was more than expected. Lots of space, good sized kitchenette with gas cooker, larger than average fridge and water bubbler supplied. Staff were amazing and Wayan leads a great team that work to make your stay the best possible. Breakfast is simple but nice, pool is small but lovely and overall the place has a very family feel about it. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Tucked away down a narrow laneway off a main road. The staff were friendly and helpful. My room was adequate size. Aircon, fridge and TV all worked fine. The bed linen was clean and the mattress very comfortable. Lighting was adequate. The bathroom had a segregated shower with hot water and decent water pressure. Even the basin had hot water. Breakfast was a choice from a menu. I had the omelet meal. No juice in lieu of coffee. I had to buy from the fridge. Standard decent western breakfast including some fruit. I did not use the small pool but other guests did. I only stayed for overnight but I had a night of relaxed comfort following 12 hours of travel.

We booked 3 nights in the Semarandana. Due on the rate and the hotel images, we did not expect too much - but based on the reviews we expected at least a small, nice and decent hotel off the main road in Sanur. From the very beginning it was a completely disappointing experience. The receptionist requested a 3% extra charge for card payments. We refused to pay this as it is simply illegal in Indonesia to a surcharge for CC payments as well as not in accordance with *********** hotel owner agreements. This regulation was introduced by the Indonesian National Bank already many years ago, but unfortunately a few store and hotel owners are still on the fraudulent side. We ended up paying the surcharge as the hotel otherwise requested cash payment suggesting the next ATM.... (it's not about the money - the 3% was a very small amount, but it's just against the law and not fair to legally operated businesses). The room itself was superficially clean and the air conditioning worked - but that was the only positive. Everything else hasn´t seen any maintenance since years. The mattress was completely worn out and in desperate need of replacement. The wooden bed creaked with every movement. In the end, we both woke up with massive back pain after the first night. The sofa in the room was in a similar condition - completely sagging. The bathroom facilities were very poor. There was only one medium sized towel per person and what was described as "toiletries" turned out to be a bar of soap. Yes, there was a flat-screen TV, but it was the smallest size available. Conclusion: everything in the equipment list was available, but in each case in the minimal version and only recognizable with a lot of imagination. Contrary to the pictures, the pool is super small and instead of the staff clearing it of leaves, they hang around looking at their smartphones. We decided to leave this awful place early morning and finally had 2 more wonderful days in another hotel in Sanur.

Great place to stay. Away from the noise of the main street but still in the center of Sanur. The staff is very kind and speak perfect english. Breakfast was included and as we had to leave many days before it started, they prepared it to us to take away. The room is big enough for two people and they make it every day for you.
