Super 8 by Wyndham Algona

The management has changed in he last month or two. It was super clean, bed comfy, everyone friendly. Management working hard to make positive changes. Ignore reviews prior to Oct 2023. Give this place a try. I will be staying there again.

I would advise no one book this Super 8. It was horrible. Unkempt, dirty and shower unusable. Air conditioner was very inefficient. Wyndham should be ashamed how they have let this private agency ruin this motel.

Buyer beware. Despite signage and listings online, there is no breakfast or coffee in rooms. The entire place feel like it’s falling apart. Drive carefully in the lot because it’s full of pot holes. Staff is mostly unavailable/nonexistent.

This Super 8 needs some TLC. It has been rode hard and put away wet. It is clean and kept up but needs attention by Super 8. The front desk staff was just fine,check- in was quick and efficient. The new staff was amazing, did bring me clean towels as soon as I asked for them and housekeepers were willing to come freshen up the room when asked and for sure the cleanliness of the place was up to standards.

When I arrived to check in (I was checking in late - approx 11:30 pm), I was told they did not have any rooms available. I explained I had a reservation and a confirmation number. I was still told no rooms available. The manger was off-site and came in to talk with me and reconfirmed the previous answer. I called the place where I made the reservation regarding a refund. As the manager had already left, I had to wait until 6 am to get a written note from the hotel. I was unable to secure another room at another hotel due to the time and had to sit in their parking lot until the manager returned at 6. I found out then that it wasn't an issue of overbooking, it was an issue that there were rooms that were not clean. Needless to say, I was not a happy camper! On a positive side, the manager was awesome and very apologetic about the situation.

Reservation for king bed was not honored. I was given a room with two small beds because they ran out of rooms with a king bed - I asked if it was first come, first served despite having a reservation and she did not say no, she kept saying that other people had checked in before me, so they ran out of rooms with a king bed. Then, when I got to the room - there was no coffee pot, no kleenex, and most importantly, No Cold Water! It was impossible to flush the filthy toilet, wash my face, brush my teeth, or take a shower. There was a dead bug on the back of the sink area. There were 2 inch long black hairs in the shower that were not mine - my hair is long and blonde / gray. The phone system did not work, I could not call the reception desk. When I went to the reception desk, there was a sign with a number to call, with a phone placed beside the sign, but that phone did not work. I had to call with my cell phone. Meanwhile, the reception desk phone kept chirping every 5 seconds or so (she said there was a glitch in the system). In the morning, she gave me a key card to a room across the hall so I could shower, etc., and I ended up getting the room free because of these difficulties. The heating system sounded like a 747 revving up to take off. The bed only had a sheet, a thin blanket, and a thin bedspread coving it, in Iowa, in the middle of winter. Despite turning up the 747 heater, I was still cold all night. There was a small pot of coffee in the morning in the reception area but no breakfast items at all. I thought there was supposed to be muffins or something. But I assure you, I will NEVER stay at ANY hotel 8 ever again in my lifetime.

This was the worst hotel I have stayed at. We had two rooms for three nights and were lied to during check in about the hot water just going out. In fact it had been out for multiple weeks and the owner and chain is not doing anything to repair. Entrees were filthy, hallways filthy, TV did not work, No Hot Water and no one at the front desk. Don’t recommend staying and I will not be staying at a Wyndham property again if this is the standards they allow.

Hotel is horrible. The room was dirty. Hallways were unkempt. Carpet looked to be as old as rhe building. Stains all over it. Hotel smelled of food cooking. No breakfast offered. One great aspect the desk clerk was so kind.
