We were traveling in the late evening from Indianapolis, IN, heading to Topeka, KS, and wanted to overnight along the way (on a Saturday night. EVERYTHING along I-70 was booked up between Indianapolis and Vandalia, IL, so we were extremely happy just to find ANY place that had a room. To be honest, we weren't expecting much, with a name like "Economy Inn". (Which, by the way, is now the name of the property, not hotel Vandalia I-70.) When we stepped into the room, we were kind of shocked. The bedspreads had a Minnie Mouse motif, which we thought was kind of funny! And the shower curtain had a "cartoon bear" motif. Clearly, the room was decorated as a "kid friendly" one, which was just fine with us. The other thing that really impressed us about our room was how clean it was! Seriously, this may have been the cleanest hotel room we'd ever stayed in---we were impressed! It was an older property, so it lacked for electrical outlets, which we overcame with a couple of power *****s we always bring along on vacation. The in-room fridge cooled VERY well---it even almost froze several bottles of pop that we put in it overnight. My wife thought the room had a microwave, but I honestly don't recall. The room also had a safe in it, which was a little out of the ordinary. The price was reasonable for the room was reasonable. But more important to us on this stay, it was AVAILABLE. Overall, we were pleased! (One negative---we couldn't "rouse" anyone in the office when we checked out the next morning. Granted, this was a Sunday morning . . . . )
