Well, where can I start? Having travelled around trying to find somewhere to eat for Sunday lunch, we decided to try the Antelope, one of our friends ran it some years ago and he recommended giving it a go as all other pubs were fully booked and the pub across the road, the Ship Inn, was fully booked again as it had been on Sundays for several months. The emergency bells first rang in my head when I entered the pub to ask if they could fit us in but was greeted by an empty pub except for a table of 4 drinking and eating nuts, but no one else!! I was told by a gentleman sat at the bar ( presumably the Chef ) that there was a deal on for Sunday lunch, £30 for 2 instead of £15.95 per person, well, we were starving so decided to give it a go but to be honest our expectations were low due to the lack of customers, but we were hoping we might have found a gem for the money being charged, sadly our first fears come to fruition when the 2 beef Sunday lunches finally arrived. The beef had been clearly overcooked and had been very thinly sliced on a slicing machine, the Yorkshire pudding was so obviously made by a lady called Aunt Bessie and the broccoli was due to flower, and the potatoes were difficult to work out, neither roasted or boiled, not sure what they were however, the gravy was tasty but not worth £30 for these 2 so called Sunday lunches as at that price I would have expected so much more than what was presented, it was very amateur, the kind of thing you might get at a cafe for a tenner at most. Such a shame, I've been in the business for many years and would never have served what we had for the kind of money we were charged, to add insult to injury we weren't asked once how our meal was, we were given condiments to go with the meal, a wooden box with a supermarket tomato sauce bottle and a bottle of mayonnaise from the same supermarket, both still labelled and filthy, it came as no surprise why the place had nobody else eating, why would you spend that kind of money on such a poor couple of plates of food when there are many many other places locally that would be well worth visiting for the same money but with a far more superior offering of food. My advice would be to employ a trained chef and let them flourish in the kitchen and breath some fresh life into this tired and unloved business, I've spent a previous career turning hospitality businesses around, its not hard to do, just needs love and attention to detail without being greedy, sourcing fresh local produce and cooking from scratch isn't difficult, giving a good portion which is well presented and produced with care and attention to detail is what is needed now, sadly this isn't the case at the Antelope, not a very good experience, we ate the meal, why wouldn't you for £30 but then left, sadly never to return.

If you value your health under no circumstances stay here. The place is filthy, dated decor and fitting, curtains that are galling apart. Communal areas full of dust and dust webs. shower cubicle co ered in water marks that look like they have never been cleaned. dust web farms galore. Food not the best. We had booked for two nights but left after the first. A friend of ours stayed last minute. His room Was even filthier than ours. On top of this We were kept up by loud music till 1am. When our friend complained the next morning he was told he was being abusive and intimidating. This place has very low ceiling and where they use as their 'reception has a low lintel. Our friend is 6 feet 9 inches resulting in him having to bend down to talk to her. She told him he should have came down to complain to which he said he shouldn't have to they should consider paying guests, she did state he was being Intimidating after he mentioned a refund. Do not stay here not even worth half the money they charge. Wouldn't stay here again if you paid me. Far nicer and clean places around. One lady actually came in booked a room But once she saw it promptly left. Utterly filthy and disgusting

Mine and my husbands stay at The Antelope was terrible. The room was dirty, unsanitary, and completely unacceptable for anyone who values hygiene and cleanliness. Upon entering the room, I noticed the cobwebs hanging from the ceilings, which were not only unsightly but an indication that the room had not been cleaned for an extended period. As I moved on, I noticed a group of dead flies on the window sill, which made me wonder how long they'd been ignored by the cleaning staff. Additionally, the carpet was stained, and there was what appeared to be residue of vomit on the skirting boards by the waste paper basket. But the cumulative effect of the unpleasant conditions in the room was evident in the bathroom. Black mould on the walls, and limescale on the hardware made the bathroom feel utterly unsanitary, with the aromas in the air not helping at all. The health implications of these unhygienic living conditions left me worried about my well-being, wondering how anyone could offer and charge money (£110 per night) to someone staying in such a room. The breakfast experience was disappointing as we were not given the opportunity to personalize our choices. Instead, a fry-up was served with no options for egg preparation or sides to add or remove. To add to our dissatisfaction, the plates were served cold. Unfortunately, our experience was not unique as both tables in the dining room received meals that were not up to par. In fact, all of the sausages were raw and every diner on both tables sent their dishes back. The other table even left without dining altogether. My husband's meal was overcooked to the point of being inedible, and he only ate it out of courtesy. Due to this unpleasant experience, we decided to skip breakfast the next day and enjoy a meal elsewhere. In conclusion, I cannot recommend The Antelope to anyone. The disregard for proper cleaning standards and hygiene is unacceptable, and the conditions made the entire stay unpleasant, with the fear of bacteria lurking around every corner. I implore the management of The Antelope to prioritize the living conditions of their guests moving forward. Until that happens, keep looking elsewhere for better accommodation.

We recently stayed for a couple of days, when we arrived the place was closed and we couldn't check in unto 3pm. The staff who were there were not very friendly at all and you felt like you were intruding, not very welcoming at all. The breakfast was ok, not great just ok, the cook didn't even know how to fry and egg it was so undercooked. We were not shown where to sit nor was it explained how the breakfast service worked. We sat ourselves down at a table we assumed was ours and then helped ourselves to the cereals and teas/coffee which was left out. The bread for toast was left out uncovered and there were a lot of flies about. Before we even had chance to eat our cereal, our hot breakfast was plonked in front of us, with no option given of what we wanted on it. The only friendly member of staff there was the cleaner. We phoned to confirm something and had to call back 3 times as they hung up then they didn't even confirm who they were so wasn't sure I was calling the pub and then on the 3rd time they answered properly. The fridge in the rooms didn't even work, the drink we left in there came out warmer then what it did when we put it in there. We would NEVER stay here again, was not worth the money, very overpriced!!

We found initially a reasonable service. Rooms comfy. Sadly breakfast service was awful. The poor lady left on her own in charge who was Ukrainian kept apologising saying ‘no English’. Myself & husband had ordered full english. No sign of it whatsoever. Was not asked at all. We ended up with a cup of tea each. A piece of white bread toast & jam. No butter, no side plates, no knife, no butter. We had to borrow & reuse plate & knife from our friends! Needless to say we just left after returning the key. A real shame & very disappointing experience. I feel sorry for the lady left all on her own she obviously needed help. When raising concerns by email we were asked to go back another time for a meal as an apology. I don’t think so! A real shame we were not even offered a refund on what we paid for the stay. We would not recommend.

I stayed at the Antelope Inn this weekend for a nearby wedding. It is a very nice place, with recently refurbished rooms with huge bathrooms. The staff couldn’t be more helpful - from allowing us to check in several hours early, to making us lunch even though the kitchen service had finished. The bar is very nice and traditional. There is an extensive menu with very nice homemade dishes - we enjoyed the traditional fish and chips, along with a lovely salad and the freshest pizza I’ve had in a long time. Our group enjoyed the selection of bitters, with the 6x and Horizon going down particularly well in the garden area while we soaked up the sunshine. Would definitely recommend and return, perhaps for Queens Jubilee as there are an array of events taking place at the inn and within this very special village

Only stayed here as attending a wedding locally. Room was ok but breakfast was a complete and utter shambles. We arrived and our food was served almost immediate. No sauces or condiments at all. Hot drinks and apple juice on bar. Food - bacon with no sign of colour, flabby and unappealing, potato waffles so overcooked, cold beans and everything covered with chives. Our friend who were also staying arrived and got no cooked breakfast!! No one to ask or inquire around, except one poor Ukrainian lady, who kept saying “no English” No side plates. Ran out of both bread for toast and butter. Utterly do disgraceful! £120 for what? Unappealing breakfast and a couple who literally got nothing and walked out! Enough said. I’m now going to find the Four in a bed episode to see how that fared. Awful.

No smile or words of welcome on arrival, just told to "sit over there". Had chosen pub lunch for my husband's birthday as website states 'menu is entirely homemade'. Unfortunately not the case; tartare sauce was out of jar ( said homemade on menu), chips tasted like bad supermarket frozen and condiments were unpleasant cheap brands. I order a diet coke which was flat, replacement was only slightly improved so I asked for a glass of water instead. After paying I noticed I had been charged for the coke and queried it with lady behind bar. Was told coke was not flat as she had tried it and in any case could not refund a drink she had served. She asked if I expected her to refund it out of her wages. As there was no manager on duty that day she told me to come back tomorrow to ask for refund of a drink I did not have. I have not experienced such bad customer service before. We will not return.
