Charles Hotsprings

Room is notat all like the photos. Old and drab. Hot Springs, very skinny bathtubs that would barely fit 2 people. We decided to cancel out reservation at 3 pm and he said they would still charge us 86% of the cost of the rpom

It's been 3+ years since I've stayed at the Charles so it's time for a new review. Things have changed as there is a new owner and many changes for the better. We had an extended stay in Room 5 (the "Mid century Mystic"), a lovely, quiet room. There is a very comfortable king sized bed, a sofa and two comfortable chairs for watching TV. There is also a large walk-in closet (with a bureau) along with the kitchenette with a full sized stove and a smaller, two door fridge and a dining table. The room has a french press coffeemaker, a kettle and a basic set of dishes/cooking supplies. The bath has a deep tub (though NOT using the hot spring water) and a rainfall shower head. This is a dog-friendly room. There is coffee at the front desk also. The motel has grass and nice trees in front of most of the rooms and a nice little grove of trees behind, which the dogs enjoyed (very clean-please pick up your dog's deposits!) Two minutes walk is Outer Edge Pizza. Their Marguarite pizza is quite tasty. Conveniently across the street from the motel is Bullock's, a full service grocery store. It's a very short walk to Truth Or Consequences Brewery and other restaurants. Now the reason why we go to the Charles is the hot springs. There are two sides, East and West. They've redone the baths on the East side. Since the baths are all gender neutral, on the new side the dividers between the baths go to the floor and there are solid, latching wood doors with lovely tile work. The West baths are still the original ones, almost a century old. They will be refurbished also. I like the older side since there are handicap handrails on both sides of each tub-safer for me. The baths are cleaned after each use and immaculate. As I mentioned above, parts of the Charles are almost a century old and the property does show its age, but the owner has already made many improvements with more on the way. There is now a resident artist program where artists can stay in exchange for twenty hours of creativity a week. There are also yoga classes, massages and other services available, along with a darling gift shop. Good wifi, also. But what really makes the Charles shine are the people, especially Marilyn, Avi, Joanna and Bill! This is a charming small town with super nice folk and we so enjoyed our stay here!

Great deal on a room with included soaks. The room we had was quite charming, comfortable, and spacious. Lots of TLC goes into this place. Keep these locally owned small businesses thriving and stay here.

My husband and I have been doing soaks at the Charles for at least 38 years. For the past several years we purchased (punch) cards to use when we are down here once or twice a month. Somewhere in between the untimely death of the owner and when they reopened after Covid our card disappeared with a minimum of 15 soaks left. Although they always made friendly attempts to look through their cards, it never showed up. Today I brought a friend from out of town and gave the Charles one more try. . The tubs have always been funky but comfortable and hot. Today my tub was filthy. Black stuff floating and stuck on the tiles. I know its natural spring water coming through the old pipes. But in 38 years never saw anything like that. I gave it 2 stars because Marilyn is nice as can be.

I wanted to love this quirky hotel. But two things took it from a 3.5 to a 2.5. First off, keep in mind it's an old hotel, though the rooms have been renovated. So old doors with keys, old bathrooms, etc The good: Good sized room, with a full kitchen. You get a soak included in every night stay On the main ***** of Truth or Consequences Plenty of parking Cute gift shop in the lobby The middling: Full sized toiletry bottles in shower, though the body wash was empty In fact everything was sort of empty or almost empty, toiletries, toilet paper, paper towels... fine you can ask for more, but should you have to ask for another tp roll as soon as you check in? The ugly: It's the desert, I get that, but cockroaches. Wr woke up to multiple large dead cockroaches in the mornings. The air conditioning. It's an old building so there's no central hvac, ok. But neither is there an in window unit, which would be loud enough. Instead there was one of those stand alone, middle of the room units, that was so very loud. And yet it was already so hot you couldn't not use it. I am not the lightest sleeper, but it still woke me up and kept me awake for most of the night. The relaxing spa weekend ended up being not so much.

Marilyn was amazing! made us feel so welcomed. she spoke to us and her bubbly personality was what drew us in. she even advised us on where to go and showed us ways to get around the town. genesis & michelle

A disappoin**ent on many fronts. WiFi was non existent (even though other places in town were strong), room was not prepared with soap, conditioner, paper towels. The staff at the front desk was preoccupied with personal phone conversations. They say, "You get what you pay for." But this was not the case with this motel - many things lacking. Cannot recommend for an overnight stay ... stick to the bath soak.

These are the nicest people. They treat you like a good friend or family. I certainly enjoyed my stay here. I felt safe and much needed rest. The hot spring was very relaxing, although the tubs need some sprucing up. But the rooms are very nice and and relaxing, it's still in the process of making it even better. It's a pet friendly hotel. Everyone there will make you feel welcomed. Thank you again, for working so hard in making this charles motel a place where I will return to when I need R&R. You're the best!

I stayed in the Mid Century Mystic, loved the funky decor. Room was clean, large and comfortable, but the kitchen area had minimal cookware/dinnerware. The room had only one window, and it had an AC unit in it. I usually love having a window open, but with the spaciousness of this room, I didn't really miss it. The landscaping could use some tidying up. I didn't use the bath house tubs, just a roof top tub. Definitely want to do that again. I went after dark and have to say, if I hadn't had my little flashlight with me, it would have been quite trying. More solar lights, please; or, maybe even one electric. The lobby was very interesting - I should have done some Chris**as shopping while there.
