Good day, my family and I recently stayed at the Super 8 Hotel in Slave Lake, and I would say, it was probably one of my worst experiences ever, staying in a hotel. We checked in on Friday, June 17, and the lady at the front counter was unfriendly, rude, inconsiderate, and very unwelcoming. We really seemed to inconvenience her. Upon checking in, we were assigned a room on the third floor. Our kids wanted to go into the pool. We went to our room and quickly changed. I went to the front counter to get some towels. The front desk lady then tells me that outside shoes are not allowed in the pool. I explained my Under Armour slides were clean and that they were my inside footwear at home. She then asked me if I was sure. She was very condescending, and I was made to feel like I was 10 years old. About 15 minutes later, my wife informs me that my father was assigned an adjoining room on the second floor. Because we are a family of five, my wife requested to change to the adjoining room from my father. The process to change rooms was very painful. The manager complained that if she could not rent the room, she would be charging us for the room. I explained nothing was disturbed. We were treated as though we'd done something wrong. The following day, I asked for a late check out (12 pm) but my request was denied. She said that there were guests coming in and they needed the rooms. I have stayed in multiple hotels and have never had an issue in getting a late check out. I found it absurd especially when the check-in time was 3 pm. After breakfast, my children wanted to swim prior to checking out. We were at the pool for 10 am but were told that we couldn't use the pool as it was closed. I was confused as the sign on the door indicated 10 am. There was a sign that was in the lobby that said the pool was closed from 10:30am - 12:30pm. I explained that it was only 10:05 am and we would be out of the pool prior to 10:30 am. This didn't sit too well with the front desk lady. One suggestion, if Super 8 is going to rent the pool to the public, wouldn’t it make the most sense to do it between the hours of 11:00 am and 3:00 pm, this way nobody is inconvenienced. I learned the lady working the front desk was the manager and her name was Karen. I really feel, a manager, must lead by example and set the bar for others to follow. A manager is representing the Super 8 brand and should be courteous, friendly, respectful, polite and a people person. Unfortunately, this was not the case. In the hotel industry, guests are a priority and are to be treated respectfully, all the time. I can assure, that my family and I will never stay at the Super 8 hotel again when visiting Slave Lake.
