Calipatria Inn and Suites

Do NOT stay here. Shocking that this place is allowed to stay open. Blood on the wall, filthy couch, filthy sheets, the air in the room seemed moldy and toxic, the refrigerator was filthy. Owner refused a refund. Unbelievable experience. Was creeped out for several days after.

Called about a room and was told to come by, there is availability. Office door didn't open properly, should have been our first clue. Got a room with 2 beds and before unloading everything I went to make sure it was suitable. There was dried blood on the sheets of one bed. Ugh. So I got out my UV light to see if it was worth just sleeping on the bed but in a sleeping bag. The UV light revealed all layers, cover to mattress, was stained extensively with signs of bed bug activity (none actually seen since it was daytime.) Went to office and spoke with a woman, and she said we could have one of the suites for the same price. I asked if I could inspect it first, she said yes. Went to inspect the the man came with and literally flipped out that I was using the UV light. Yelling at me that he obeys gov't standards and I had no right to do that. We said we wanted a refund (paid in cash) and he refused to return $30 of our money and said it was for labor in remaking the beds. Ugh. Offered to remake the beds and he said no, he wanted that cash. Fine. We left. On a side note, there is a feedlot in the area and you can't get away from the smell.

The room had not been cleaned. There was urine on the toilet seat, and dirty footprints on the floor. A stranger tried to get into our room. When we tried to get a refund, the owner argued with us and hung up on us. Do not stay here.

I hadn't stayed there in a few years. It had always been a diamond in the desert,conveniet to birding and It had been a diamond in the desert while traveling between Arizona and further north. The ownership has changed, and it is very dire need of maintenance. The bathroom had 1/3 roll of toilet paper, the formerly green grass in the inner yard is now just dirt, there was a used tooth pick on the night stand, you need your own HULU password, etc, the internet was very slow, etc.

It was only AFTER booking on line was informed that there was a two night minimum. We were only one of about three or four rooms occupied at this facility arriving on August 31, 2022 and leaving on September 1 before checkout time as my son had sustained a hornet bight and he needed medical attention. Despite this, the owner/manager said he would not check us out and planned to charge for the following day. I really had no leverage as he already had my credit card info. Aside from that the room was dingy, not at all like the pictures on the website. Pool was empty, ALL landscaping, including palm trees were either dead or removed entirely. Dead bugs generously spread inside the ceiling light over the wash basin and a gnarly looking spider on the drapes next to the entry door. No wifi nor telephone service in the rooms. Phones in room completely inoperable. Despite all that, the manager/owner charged my credit card for two nights and refused talk about the so-called "two night minimum". VERY bad experience. FYI there's a nice Best Western Plus in Brawley (about ten minutes away.)
