After evacuating home for a hurricane, we decided to stay in Albany our third night away because it was two hours closer to home than our first couple nights away and the weather forecast was good here. We chose this Hampton Inn from the available Hilton brand choices in the area because it was not only very highly rated on TripAdvisor, but it was also the only one that offered a reasonable rate. Turns out it was a great choice. At check-in, the staff was fantastic. Very personable, talkative, upbeat and helpful. We were delighted to be offered Deer Park spring water rather than the cheap purified brand that seems to be the standard at Hampton Inns. We were also very pleased that this hotel carries a non-GMO option in its complimentary snack basket for Hilton Honors members. We were off to a great start. The hotel is gorgeous. Unlike some of the newer facilities where an "adequate" theme seems to be the norm, the lobby decor here is beautiful, elegant, inviting. Coffee (three kinds) and tea (three kinds) are available in the lobby, as are complimentary local newspapers. The pantry is stocked with upscale snack brands, like Food Should Taste Good and Deep River and Miss Vickie's. A brilliant concept - edible snacks for discriminating guests. We did encounter a couple of issues at first, such as no wi-fi when we got situated in our room. When we wanted to phone the front desk to report it, we discovered that neither of room phones were functioning. We did reach a member of the staff and were advised to try again in half an hour. Maintenance was working on it. The wi-fi came back on as promised. For the remainder of our stay it functioned well. One small issue was that there was no alarm clock - not a major problem with cell phones today, but I like to see the time in the middle of the night without trying to find my phone. The other sleep issue was a bit of noise. Our room was near the elevator and I was awakened in the wee hours by an inconsiderate boor who bellowed his way down the hall to his room. Otherwise, we enjoyed our stay. I appreciated the full size tub, especially since it seems that the trend for new and/or renovated Hampton Inns is replacing tubs with double-size showers. I very much appreciated the exhaust fan in the bathroom and am amazed at how many hotels are not furnished with them. I'd rather not have to blow dry the mirrors after I bathe. Toiletries supplied here were above par. In addition to the standard bar soap and Neutrogena shampoo, conditioner and body lotion, they also provided bath gel and mouthwash. I don't use bar soap so have to pack my own body wash. Nice to know that I can leave it home next time I visit. The bathroom's granite countertop was large enough to accommodate the barrage of personal care items I bring whenever I travel. Towels were of sufficient thickness and plentiful. Missing was a night light. I don't like leaving the bathroom light on at night because it's blinding when my eyes are used
